Red Carpet Rundown: Oscars Edition

Guys, this is groundbreaking -- I think...THINK, this may have been the first year that I wasn't absolutely appalled at a fashion choice made at the Oscars. This is big news! I can usually always count on one person to really ruin my night with their threads of choice, but nope, not this year. Now, this isn't to say that I loved everything I saw (looking at you, Pharell and wifey), but I could respect it in an "Ah, I see what you did there" kind of way. No one made me question what planet we live on and that is a BIG step.

It seemed like neutral tones with some glitz was the theme of the night. Lots of folks either kept it simple with color and went for some embellishment or kept it simple with silhouette and went with a pop of color or an interesting texture. Nothing was too over the top. Some people were bored by this, but I have to say that I was okay with it. As someone who usually gravitates towards brighter, bolder colors and patterns, the neutrality of the night was a breath of fresh air. And, I mean, I think we all can agree that it made Lupita's entrance all the more breathtaking, but we will get back to my girl, Lupita.

I was feeling a little under the weather during last nights broadcast, so I have to admit that I was a little in and out, but as per usual, I had my favorites:

And then, there was Lupita Nyong'o

I had to save the best for last. While Lupita always looks stunning, I am a firm believer in the idea that a lot of fashion choices would mean nothing if you don't have the poise and presence to pull it off. Lupita has all that and more. At this point, she has earned the right to take it easy on the red carpet, play it safe -- she never does. The girl just doesn't disappoint. I was prepping my dinner when she first graced the red carpet. My boyfriend prompted me to turn around and look at the screen (because he even knew it was a moment not to be missed), and without even thinking, I blurted out "SHE IS AN ANGEL!" And that she is. Her speech. Oh her speech! She has become an idol at the ripe age of 31 (even though with that gorgeous skin she will never look at day older than 25, and even that's pushing it). So yes, Lupita's dress was magical, but her mere presence at this point is a gift. I truly admire her as an actress and even more as an advocate.

And always remember, kiddos: "No matter where you're from, your dreams are valid." - Lupita Nyong'o
